Description
First published in 1930, Church, State and Study presents a collection of lectures by Professor Ernest Barker. The first four essays deal with Church and State in history; the fifth is a bridge of transition to the theory and politics of the modern state, which are treated in the three subsequent essays; The nineth is another bridge of transition, from history and politics to education; and the last three are concerned with different phases of that subject, in the university, the school and the area of adult education. All the essays may be said, in a word, to deal with the history or theory of society.
This is an interesting historical reference work for students of politics and religion.

Reviews / Votes
Dr Barker's book covers a varied field. In the early essays comprised in the volume he strides along the field of history on seven-leagued boots, examining the constitutional development of the Roman Empire, devoting a deeply interesting essay to the study of medieval civilisation,... the book is a series of essays and lectures, written and delivered at different periods of time."J H. Harley, Fortnightly Review, May 1865-June 1934; London Vol. 129, (Dec 1930)
