Description
This handbook for teachers explains how to build up a stroke or skill from its component parts. It contains progressive lesson plans to be used week by week and caters for classes of up to 40 children of mixed age and ability. In the "shallow" group, the emphasis is on the gradual and thorough building up of the breast stroke, an invaluable stroke for survival in water. The "middle" group are concerned with the two back strokes, treading water, surface diving, underwater swimming and the safe removal of clothing. Finally, the "deep" group are encouraged to work on front crawl, shallow dives, continuing stroke improvement and strengthening activities to increase stamina. A list of confidence-building activities is also included for the timid or frightened child. The book is written by two experienced swimming teachers.
