John Henry Newman may be considered the most outstandingly original and creative English religious thinker of the 19th century. This account of Newman shows him to be a prophet for our times as much as he was for his own. Though unsuccessful in most of his undertakings in the RC Church during his lifetime, his genius has come to be more and more recognised after his death and his influence can hardly be exaggerated.
