Description
Another Bloody Mountain is an eclectic mix of fact, fiction and fieldwork. It is a son's account of his father's period as a POW in Italy and subsequent escape from PG53 in September 1943. The story traces the route of a 30 day walk through the Apennine mountains to reach the British front line. Sources for the story are threefold: my fathers tales of his incarceration and escape, extensive research in the Uk, and intensive fieldwork in Italy. Research sources included official escape reports in the War Office records and published accounts of this period of the war in Italy. The fieldwork involved a trip to Italy, starting at the camp site and then following the escape route (mostly by car). Missing sections of the route became apparent when in situ.
