A series of short stories translated from Chinese by Brendan O'Kane. A letter-writing campaign to local government by a group of bumptious intellectuals triggers an unforseen chain of events, a grad student's girlfriend develops a fascination with her advisor's personal history, and a man begins to fixate on the idea that his new-born infant was actually fathered by his younger brother. *Also appeared in May Buyer's Notes*
