Description
Up to a quarter of strokes are due to infarction in the lacunae - small slit-like arteries in the brain - yet there has, up until now, been no book on the subject of lacunar infarction. The editors have assembled the international experts in the field to produce this comprehensive guide to surgical and pharmacological treatments for acute stroke and secondary stroke prevention which also covers the neuropsychological sequelae of lacunar stroke. There is currently a high level of interest in pharmalogical and surgical treatments for acute stroke, and in secondary stroke prevention, and the fact that in patients who have lacunar strokes there is a distinctive pathological mechanism has important practical implications. This timely new book covers all these issues and closes with a section that summarizes the current position in disease investigation and management. This book is intended for neurologists, geriatricians, physicians, vascular physicians, and rehabilitation specialists.
