Description
Reconstructing Journalism Norms analyses the evolution of the principles that define the role of journalism in society and how they are challenged by changes in the cultural, political and economic landscape. David Domingo explores conceptual issues relating to journalism's social purpose, such as the construction of journalistic norms, the impact of digital practices, and opportunities to reconstruct ideas of journalism's role through theoretical and practical challenges. Related critical debates are also investigated, including the political-economy of journalism, the dispersion of news production, and the role of journalism in politics, and citizens in journalism.
Reviews / Votes
Marina Dekavalla, University of Stirling, UK - 'The organization of chapters is logical. The author presents his ideas very clearly and this promises a book that will be well written and easy to follow. The broader topic is central to debates about journalism and the media at the moment and the proposed angle is original [...]I think this is an important topic, worth academic exploration. The book promises to contribute to a current debate from a different perspective and it's been several years since a book was published on journalistic/media norms, so there is an opportunity to fill a gap.'Jaana Hujanen, University of Helsinki, Finland - 'The book is about a topical and important theme: the normative principles of journalism and their (re)construction [...] I did not quite understand the major title "Save Journalism" [...] I agree with the assumption that is fruitful to examine the principles of journalism as historical and changing concepts [...] I think all the topics relevant to this topic are covered. I assume the role of social media is also relevant for the book and that the author plans to include in to the book [...]I would also like the author to pay attention what is meant with the normative principles of (professional and/or nonprofessional) journalism and normative theories defining good or proper journalism in a certain way.'
