Description
This book aims to explore the technique of throwing, taking it to the next level. Traditionally throwing was used for functional vessels and was seen as a pure art, but today throwing is one technique in many, and contemporary artists no longer use it in a 'pure' form. Forms made on the wheel are no longer just functional, and many potters just begin by throwing a form, before cutting it up and reassembling it, manipulating the clay in different ways, or joining the form to others to create sculptural pieces. Thrown forms can also be combined with other techniques such as handbuilding or moulded parts. This book looks at the many variations that throwing and altering can offer, covering contemporary artists taking an old tradition and using it in new and innovative ways.
