In Europe, the Allied forces are preparing for the invasion and artists will be needed to immortalise the event. To prove his worth to his parents, Peter, failed New York artist, volunteers for the job. He finds himself at the heart of 'The Big Red One' the most exposed regiment of them all; the one that will land at Omaha Beach. His brother, Jim, is the family favourite. He has even recently made the front page of Life magazine. He is a member of the Rangers whose job it is to neutralise the Pointe de Hoc.
