Description
India has done well on many indicators of progress in the post-reform period. However, a lot remains to be done as the economy is confronted with macroeconomic challenges such as high inflation, high current account deficit, depreciation of the rupee, high fiscal deficit, and decline in exports. The India Development Report 2012-13 assesses many such contemporary problems keeping in view the objectives of the Twelfth Five Year Plan, and examines the post-reform performance and policies
that are needed in the next decade to achieve various economic, social, and environmental goals of the nation.
Using a combination of rich empirical data and rigorous analysis, the Report covers: macroeconomic developments and an assessment of the growth process; the recent high and persistent consumer price inflation; the pro-cyclical nature of fiscal policies; performance and key policy issues in agriculture, manufacturing, and services sectors; issues related to borrowings of Indian firms; sustainability of and access to energy resources; coverage and quality of urban civic services, urban
migration, and urban mobility; poverty, inequality and human development; and emerging issues such as corruption and climate change.
It includes a statistical appendix which is a valuable source of information on the macroeconomic trends.
