Mathematical Methods 3 and 4

Mathematical Methods 3 & 4 is a new text written to meet the requirements of year 12 students who require an in-depth coverage of mathematical theory and practice when they reach senior school level. Together with Mathematical Methods 1 & 2 (1998), the book offers a complete coverage of the requirements of the new VCE study design, with ample opportunities to investigate, build on and revise relevant content. However, its distinguishing features are significant. This is not just another textbook for year 12 with myriad problems and examples. It is that, and the problems are new and original. But its strengths lie in the following: * An increasing demand for real-life applications in maths syllabuses is fulfilled by original and practical situations which surround the problems and examples * An ability to take on board many teaching methods and clearly expound theory * A descriptive style which explains the background to the mathematical processes, thus assisting teachers and students to progress through the book in a logical and natural way * A sound use of technology at the appropriate level * Caters for both CASIO and TEXAS graphic calculators * Each chapter has its own revision section, and also a cumulative set of revision exercises * All exercises are graded, and with guidance from the teacher, the text allows room for development by individual students to their maximum potential * Revision exercises will spell out the skills and attitudes which are required to complete the syllabus satisfactorily. The book is absolutely relevant to the new VCE maths course to be introduced in the Year 2000. The current enrolment is 20,000. In 2000 the VCE syllabus is being changed to an outcomes based approach and this will alter the requirements of at least the assessment attached to the course. This implies that current texts will at the very least need up-dating and that this is a good opportunity for Hodder to enter the market. This fact was what the earlier Mathematical Methods 1 and 2 was premised on. Mathematical Methods 3 & 4 is part of the new Hodder Maths series which will by the end of 1999 provide a complete coverage of secondary school mathematics curricula.
