Michael A. Davis, a retired Denver, Colorado criminal defense attorney, was originally from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, a place steeped in American history. Mr. Davis lived several miles up the road, so to speak, from where George Washington embarked for his famous Christmas crossing of the Delaware River.
Mr. Davis first became acquainted with Abraham Hunt when, in 1991, he gave a talk at his Masonic Lodge about George Washington's setbacks during the six months following the Declaration of Independence. At that time, America was coming very close to not becoming a nation.
Then In 1994, a document dealer wrote to Mr. Davis., who could not believe what was inside the envelope. It was a copy of Abraham Hunt's protection paper and his oath of loyalty to Great Britain.
Could Mr. Hunt's apparent act of treason be defended? Mr. Davis, with the help of some interesting Eighteenth Century characters, decided to give it a try.
