Description
This is the first biography of Elliott White Springs (1896-1959), who was fifth-ranking U.S. pilot of World War I, best-selling author, advertising genius, and maverick maser of a textile manufacturing empire. War Birds, his masterpiece, inspired many books and films on the youth of World War I and the twenties. During the depression, Springs expanded the family textile mills in South Carolina, as others were retrenching, and made Springmaid sheets and the Springmaid girls household words.
