Steven and Stella are an English couple in LA - debauched, married, illegal and on the run from a drug deal gone wrong in Spain. She works in a gallery and has affairs; he watches, and listens, and drives a boat for a plastic surgeon. She has a stalker, she thinks; he congratulates her on having 'this year's must-have accessory'. The cop she calls in thinks he's dealing with a couple of English wackos with bad teeth, although he'll admit she's sexy as hell. Cue a spiral of violence, paranoia and death under the merciless California sun...La-La Land has never been so scary. Torso is a major departure for Denise Danks, the most powerful and commercial novel she has yet written.
