This isn't just a book about painting vampires but a complete art course covering materials, supports and brushes. Ian gives us advice on all types of mediums from pencils, inks and pens to watercolours, acrylics and oils. There's even a section on using digital media to colour what you've created - something several new supernatural and fantasy books seem to be doing and one that's very useful. There information on basic techniques such as perspective and composition and suggestions as to where to gather inspiration. The vampires themselves are covered in great detail with Ian showing us how to take basic human anatomy and tailor it to the type of vampire you want to create. A vampire isn't just a vampire but can be male, female, Gothic, classic, demon, phantom - seems the types are only as limited as your imagination and Ian's tools will allow you let let it have free rein and create just what you want. Of course all vampires need the correct setting - you wouldn't place a Gothic vampire n a suburban bungalow would you ( of course there's no reason why you couldn't but it would look better in the correct Gothic style castle wouldn't it?) along with the buildings Ian shows us how to create atmosphere by way of lighting and weather situations such as storms and mist - and traditional vampire accoutrements such as tombs, graveyards and ruins. A fantastic book for fantasy lovers - this book really does cover all angles and does what it says - a complete art course.-JeannieZelos.comMore details
