James Dalton, president of Strategic Counsel, is a management consultant to the nonprofit community with specialties in customer research, process improvement, strategic planning, and leadership development. Prior to establishing his consulting practice, Dalton served as chief executive officer of the American Society of Landscape Architects, where he instituted an ongoing member research program to gather information on member satisfaction, changing market dynamics, and emerging issues that define the needs of the profession. He also spent 18 years at the National Society of Professional Engineers, where he served in a number of roles including that of deputy executive director. Dalton has been an active volunteer in ASAE & The Center for Association Leadership and has acted as a primary author and contributor on the topic of strategic planning and leadership.
