Numerical Analysis

The first book on numerical analysis conceived and written for 16-19 old students, this textbook embraces all the requirements of the relevant module in the MEI (Mathematics in Education and Industry Schools Project) A/AS syllabus, but is equally suitable for all other courses featuring numerical analysis. The book strikes an important balance between a rigorous approach to the subject and the integration of practical applications. Students are encouraged to view numerical analysis as a development of mathematical ideas and not just a collection of miscellaneous techniques. Each chapter is designed to develop both the practical aspect of the subject and the theoretical knowledge. Worked examples and specific exercises are provided at the end of each chapter, increasing in difficulty as the book progresses therefore helping to stretch students to the best of their ability, and questions from past A level examination questions are included. A set of open-ended tasks give students the opportunity to develop coursework material and to investigate numerical analysis in more depth.
