Description
Ian Crook, a skilful midfielder with an eye for a pass and a mean free-kick, spent 11 fantastic years playing for a Norwich side who competed against the likes of Liverpool, Spurs and Arsenal on equal terms. A string of top five finishes and several exciting cup runs by the Canaries were crowned by a remarkable night in Munich when Norwich knocked Bayern out of Europe. An integral part of those triumphs, the man known as "Chippy", who cost just 80,000 pounds when he signed from Spurs in 1986, was voted into the club's Hall of Fame in 2002. But Chippy's time in Canary yellow was not without controversy. Famously he agreed to join arch rivals Ipswich Town in 1996, even posing in a blue shirt and buying his kids replica kit, before changing his mind at the eleventh hour and remaining at Carrow Road. Now, after a spell playing and managing abroad, Chippy is back as coach at Norwich under great friend and former colleague Bryan Gunn. Together they are attempting to return the club they love to the glories of their own playing era. Packed full of great stories from the bootroom, including tales of Steve Bruce, Ruel Fox, Andy Townsend, Dave Stringer, Martin O'Neill and Jeremy Goss, plus his fued with Terry Butcher, Chippy tells the full story of a remarkable career and a love affair between loyal fans and one of their favourite idols.
