A memoir of World War II by the British actor, Derek Bond, who entered the Brigade of Guards where he served in North Africa, was wounded and invalided home with an MC for his valour. He returned to the Third Battalion in Italy and was captured in Florence, having been led to believe that the Germans had evacuated the city, and spent the rest of the war as prisoner.
