June Counsel served in the Navy during World War II and afterwards read English at university. June has been teaching and writing since 1962 and had her first book, Mostly Timothy published in 1971. June has written many more books for children and spent much time travelling to schools and libraries taking oral story-building sessions with children and teachers. She has also lectured on Writing for Children. June lives in Peterborough with her husband. Neal Layton is an extremely talented young illustrator who has had great success with his picture books, including Rover by Michael Rosen and his own book, Oscar and Arabella won the Smarties Prize Bronze Award in 2002. He lives in Portsmouth.
