Description
The first volume of a work which examines five major conflicts. The analysis in each volume focuses on military events and lessons, treating the politics of each conflict only to the extent necessary to understand the grand strategy, strategy and tactics of the conflict. Where possible, key events and data are described in such a way as to allow readers to draw their own conclusions, making a deliberate effort to avoid oversimplifying the complex nature of modern war. Although the three volumes stand as independent works, the overall approach has been standardized as much as possible. Each volume is divided into sections analyzing the forces involved, the history of the conflict, key aspects of the operational art of war and the impact of major types of weapons on the course of the conflict.
