Description
Summer in the Forest is the fourth in a series of seasonal picture books for pre-K to early elementary children about the natural world, in particular the deciduous forest of the American Northeast. The Summer book illustrates the vertical layers of a forest starting with an eagle and squirrels in the high canopy, moving down past a sleeping raccoon and her kits and a pileated woodpecker chiseling a snag, to a cool stream-side where turkeys and a bear family amble past. The light and air change from the pale blue and greens of open sky with a breeze in the high branches to the cool dark greens of the quiet and moist conditions at ground level. Children are encouraged to look both up and down when in the forest and to imagine life among the branches as well as on the ground. The language of these books is lyrical, the images are engaging and sometimes humorous but always realistic - think field guides for 3- to 8-year-olds.
In this book series, children will learn the names and habits of common forest animals and plants as they are seen in their natural settings. By engaging children's innate curiosity and interest in the natural world they are able to make a step toward understanding more complex ecological principles in simple, age- appropriate language.
We publish in hardcover, paperback, and audio ebook.
