The Lady is stripped of her power, and the Black Company is a shadow of itself - a ragged handful of survivors. With no other path open, Croaker, the Company's new captain, turns to the Annals and half-forgotten legend in search of answers. Their destination: Khatovar - the fabled birthplace of the Black Company.
