The growing importance of medical genetics in clinical practice reflects the decline in morbidity and mortality from other causes, and advances in our understanding of the basic mechanisms of genetic diseases. However, medical genetics is a recent inclusion in most undergraduate curricula and much of this new information lies scattered in journals and specialized texts.
