Description
Breast surgery refers to the surgical treatment of certain breast diseases. It finds its field of application in breast cancer therapy and in the plastic-reconstructive field. Plastic surgery aims to remedy some breast defects. This surgery, which in most cases responds to requests of a purely aesthetic nature, is therefore also known as "cosmetic surgery". Reconstructive surgery is instead used to reconstruct the breast when it has been necessary to remove it due to a neoplastic pathology or when it has been destroyed by traumatic events. Breast augmentation, also called "breast enlargement", is a plastic surgery procedure involving the breast and one of the most requested aesthetic procedures by adolescents together with liposuction. Excellent results can be achieved by readjusting the volume by implanting a prosthesis. All breast prostheses are made up of a silicone casing, while the content of the same can vary. Currently, prostheses containing a cohesive silicone gel or, alternatively, physiological solution of saline water are the most used, due to the difficult leakage of material into the tissues. In cases of marked sagging of the skin, firming (mastopexy) is sometimes also necessary to obtain an optimal result. All these operations are carried out under general anesthesia and require the patient to stay in the clinic or hospital for a period of 1-3 days as well as the limitation of physical activity for approximately 4-6 weeks.
