Contemporary British Politics and Government

There is an argument that the study of British Politics is in decline; that it is being surpassed by much more sexy subjects such as globalisation or international relations, or regional studies - be it Europe, the Americas or South East Asia. Despite this gloomy outlook, there is a need for the study of British Politics. Rather than it being the entire degree, it might need to be part of a bigger package - be it in Politics or Government. It is also part of the study of Citizenship - and a key component at that. Yet the study of British Politics should go much further. Somebody studying business, for example, ought to have an awareness of the fundamentals of British Politics. Such knowledge may give a greater awareness of the role and function of the public sector, or sources of start-up funds for new businesses. The list goes on. So the study of British Politics is very important. This book attempts to encapsulate much of what is taught in a Politics syllabus. It also includes other areas of politics, which students of British Politics might not consider important.
