Description
Austrian generals of the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars emerge through vivid biographies detailing careers, origins, and enduring military legacies.
Generals in White: Austrian Generals of the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, 1792-1815, is the first work to delve into the careers and lives of the hundreds of Austrian officers who served as generals during one of the most tumultuous eras of European history. Each biography is compiled from multiple sources in various languages and aims to bring to life all those who served as general officers within the Austrian army, so they are no longer simply names on pages.
Split into three volumes, the first covers those generals named Abele to Gyurkovics. It also provides an overview of the Austrian army of the period. Volume 2 will feature the biographies of Generals Haan to Quosdanovich, as well as information on how an officer began and advanced their career. Lastly, Volume 3 will cover Generals Radetzky to Zschock and will contain an extensive bibliography.
Each biography includes genealogical information where available, as well as a description of their career path from their first joining a regiment until retirement. The biographies are crafted using material from a wide range of sources, including regimental and campaign histories, as well as journal articles.
