Diachronicles

Pages Paysages, a renowned French journal, will now be published for the first time in a parallel English edition by Birkhäuser. Each volume is devoted to a particular theme in contemporary landscape architecture, interpreted using a wide selection of international examples. Diachronicles is the 8th volume in this series and examines the effect of time on a landscape. It takes a look at how locations are slowly transformed by natural growth or changes in weather. These changes occur at a much more leisurely pace, frequently determined by chance, and man is often powerless to intervene. Even in urban landscapes, we can rediscover this natural wild element. Fifteen richly illustrated projects from France, Germany, England, Spain, Brazil, and the USA, provide an international overview of this fascinating and multifacetted topic.
