Description
Reflections on Architectural Practice represents a career-spanning collection of texts by David Chipperfield, who, since establishing his office more than four decades ago, has often turned to writing to make sense both of his profession and his work within it. Operating at turns as theorist, polemicist and editor, over the years Chipperfield has drawn upon various forms of rhetoric, and published across different platforms, including books, articles, editorials and lectures, in search of an architecture that questions accepted truths and embraces the tangible, physical qualities which shape our lives. This volume brings together the earliest articulation of these ideas with writing that continues to advocate for the positive role architecture can play in society. The collection features original texts that provide more personal insights into the context of making architecture as well as a new introduction to the 2023 Pritzker Prize lecture by Kenneth Frampton. Reframing the more conventional autobiography of a practitioner as told through his built work, the book offers a parallel reading of a remarkable career through the thinking, ideas and arguments that inform architecture itself.
