Richard Meier was born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1934 and received his architectural training at Cornell University. He opened his private practice in 1963 and has taught at universities including Pratt Institute, Cooper Union and Yale. His works have won international recognition and include the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, the Getty Center and the Hypolux Bank building. Over the years Richard Meier has received many awards, including the 1984 Pritzker Prize and the Royal Gold Medal fromt eh Royal Institute of British Architects. The "American Architects" series is a collection of books devoted to significant figures of 20th-century American architecture. Each monograph offers a complete vision of the architect's work and photographs and drawings illustrate ten projects from each. As well as Richard Meier, the series examines the oeuvre of Louis Kahn, Jose Lluis Sert, Philip Johnson, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and many others.
