Reviews / Votes
Gr 2-4-The Star Friends are back in this animal-filled, fantastical chapter book series about a group of magical animals who bond with human kids and teach them how to improve the world through magic. In this installment, the girls are trying to figure out who conjured the dark magic shades in their town's annual scarecrow contest (the subject of the previous book) while also hanging with their new non-Star Friend classmate Maddie and trying to stop a development from taking over their mystical clearing in the woods. Expressive pencil drawings throughout the short chapters combine with uncomplicated world-building to make these stories a great entry to magical realism, mysteries, and fantasy series for young readers. VERDICT Purchase where magical mysteries circulate well. --School Library JournalMore details
