Description
Housing has grown in importance as a taught subject in higher education over the last decade. In addition to a growth in professionally accredited courses and undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, there has been a tremendous growth in courses where housing is a major component (geography, land economics, surveying, social policy, the build environment and planning). This is a core textbook providing an introduction to the British Housing System with a carefully designed structure including different levels of material and case studies to appeal to the widest range of students across many related disciplines. Part 1 gives a framework for understanding the operation and management of the UK Housing System, covering a breadth of subjects including government, policy processes economics, social policy and sociology. It provides the introduction to the Chartered Institute of Housing course and a means to understand the specialist chapters of Part 2. Part 2 covers all the major course options available to 2nd/3rd Years.
The conclusion presents a debate on the major themes explored in the book, with a review of the main policy and practice findings and implications for the future development of housing policy in the UK.
