Yvon Chabrowski ist bildende Künstlerin, die im Medium der Fotografie, Performance sowie mit Bewegtbild als Skulptur arbeitet. Sie setzt sich mit den visuellen Formeln von Medien auseinander, die sie dekontextualisiert, um ihre Mechanismen und Manipulationsstrategien aufzudecken. Eine ihrer frühen Werkreihen thematisiert Dynamiken und territoriale Ansprüche in Menschengruppen und ihre mediale Repräsentation. Yvon Chabrowski sagt über ihre eigene Arbeitsweise: "Mich interessieren Bilder, die wir alle in unserem kollektiven Gedächtnis mit uns herumtragen. Ich arbeite mit ikonografisch geprägten Bildern - Bilder, bei denen man auf den ersten Blick glaubt, als sei das, was man darauf sieht, bereits völlig klar. Sie sind Teil unseres visuellen Gedächtnisses und sie sind in unsere Körper eingeschrieben." Die Publikation Yvon Chabrowski versammelt drei Werkreihen der letzten zehn Jahre und ist der erste umfangreiche Katalog der Künstlerin.
Yvon Chabrowski, geboren in Ost-Berlin, studierte an der Leipziger Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst und an der École nationale supérieur des beaux-arts Lyon.
Yvon Chabrowski is a visual artist working in different media, ranging from photography and performance to the moving image as a form of sculpture. She analyses the visual formulas of different media and reveals their mechanisms and manipulation strategies by stripping away their contextual setting. One of her early series of works deals with the territorial claims and dynamics operating in groups of people and their media representation. Chabrowski says of her own way of working: "I'm interested in the images that we all carry with us in our collective memory. I'm working with highly iconographic pictures-pictures that are looked at as though what one sees were already completely clear. It's all of the pictures that are already part of our visual memory and inscribed in our bodies." The publication Yvon Chabrowski brings together three series of works from the last ten years and is the artist's first comprehensive catalogue.
