As a young man, before he became an author, James Catchpole had a couple of careers where it actively helped to have one leg. One was busking and hitch-hiking around France with a guitar. The other was playing amputee football on crutches, which he briefly did for England. He is now finding that having one leg is helpful as an author, too - provided you write books about characters with one leg.
