This book provides a framework for structuring information for environmental management of industrial systems. The reader learns how to establish the best preconditions for structuring industrial environmental information systems. The text is a practical introduction to the field, and may be used as a reference when planning information systems projects. The text has a wide interpretation of ''information structure'', including data format and model and system architecture, as well as data communication and aggregation structures and data quality. The text takes a start in key concepts of sustainable development, and in tools and concepts of industrial environmental management and informatics. On basis of these concepts and tools three practical examples of development of industrial environmental information systems are presented. The three examples are information systems for life cycle assessment, toxicity assessment and eco-design. The framework is constituted by the four principles of Economy of the information system life cycle, Cognitive sciences, Physical reality and Quality, and by the Work procedure for establishing the information structures.
