Description
This book focuses on the plastic property of materials, and the way in which structures made of such material behave under load. It is intended for civil, mechanical, electro-mechanical, marine, and aeronautical engineers for under-graduate or post-graduate courses or research, and professionals in industry. Professor Calladine, from long experience in teaching, research and industry, here delivers a readable and authoritative account of theory and applications. He presents the classical "perfect plasticity material" as a model of irreversible mechanical behaviour, using this perfect plasticity property to analyse a range of continuum structural problems and metal-forming processes relevant to engineering practice.
Reviews / Votes
This is an excellent and lucidly-written book, warmly recommended to students studying M.Eng or Masters programmes and researchers., Structures and BuildingsCalladine is the person who invented plasticity and it is not a big surprise that he can explain well in his book. It is easy to read, very well structured and it has all you need to know about plasticity in there..-starting off with the simple theorems, he then carries on talking about rotating discs, torsion and indentation problems. Last few chapters are about slip-line fields, circular plates under transverse loading and metal-forming processes.. (wire drawing and extrusion). I started reading this book at university and I believe it it is one of the best reference books about Plasticity., Review by a customer on Amazon.co.uk
