Description
Micro CDS/ISIS is one of the most widely used information retrieval software packages worldwide with over 10,000 users and was developed by the UNESCO General Information Programme. The package is supplied with a reference manual but this is difficult, if not impossible, for beginners to use for self-instruction. This handbook provides a user-friendly introduction to CDS/ISIS, arranged in the order which a beginner would need to follow software installation, database definition, data entry, search and retrieval and selecting records from the database for printing. There is an introduction to MS-DOS for those unfamiliar with the operating system. The book also deals with subjects not covered in the reference manual such as mounting the software on a network, using it to produce catalogue cards and mailing labels and implementing standards such as MARC and the UNESCO Common Communication Format. The authors, both UK CDS/ISIS User Group' Committee' Members, have been involved in the package since its inception and have undertaken consultancies and training courses in its use.
The handbook will be of use not only to existing users of CDS/ISIS who want to get more out of the software but also to individuals or organizations wishing to evaluate the package for use or when recommending software as part of a consultancy
