David Burr (1934-2025) was an expert in medieval church history. He served as professor of history at Virginia Tech from 1966 to 2001. His book The Spiritual Franciscans: From Protest to Persecution in the Century After Saint Francis won the Marraro Prize for Italian History, the Shea Prize for Church History, and the Gründler Prize for Medieval Studies. His other books include Olivi and Franciscan Poverty, Olivi's Peaceable Kingdom, and the volume on Revelation in the series The Bible in Medieval Tradition.
