Description
The RHLB is being widely used as a comprehensive battery to help provide a quantitative and qualitative assessment of the language and communication impairments that can arise as a result of right hemisphere cerebral damage. Standardized on groups of unilaterally RHD and LHD and normal subjects, the tests discriminate between right and left hemisphere damaged (aphasic) and normal subjects. They provide full pyschometric quantification of impairment, with a convenient Scaled T Score comparison of performance on individual tests, and a rich qualitative profile. The subtests can be used independently with stroke, head injured and dementing patients as well as other groups, and test for a range of language parametres associated with right hemisphere damage. The RHLB consists of tests of: lexical semantic comprehension; spoken metaphor appreciation; written metaphor appreciation; verbal humour appreciation;comprehension of inference; production of emphatic stress; and a comprehensive discourse analysis.
