Description
Old Hushwing has come to live in the barn near Billy's house, and Billy loves to lie in bed at night listening to the owl out hunting for his supper. Then one day Billy's parents tell him they are having a new baby. They need Billy's bedroom for the baby, and so they are going to build a new room in the barn especially for Billy. Billy is very excited. But when the builders start work, Old Hushwing is disturbed and he flies away into danger. When Old Hushwing doesn't come back, Billy persuades his parents to build a small house especially for the owl, and in the spring Old Hushwing finally returns -- accompanied by Mrs Hushwing!

Alan didn't start writing for children until his two children were grown up. He says, "It's a way of keeping their childhood and mine alive." As well as his books for Collins -- WINDHOVER (illustrated by Christian Birmingham) and NIKKI AND THE ROCKING HORSE (illustrated by Peter Utton) -- Alan has had two books published by Hodder; KING OF THE DARK TOWER and A DOG OF MY OWN.
