Description
A look at the new field of research that has evolved to examine and resolve the problems of providing database support within the framework of an IPSE (Integrated Project Support Environment). One chapter of the book covers the development of the database component of the aspect IPSE prototype. There is also a brief account of the development of IPSEs and their basic architecture and a detailed specification for an IPSE database, together with a full explanation of the reasons why available database systems are inadequate for this purpose. The author compares the database facilities for Aspect and those proposed for two other IPSE systems - the CAIS project in the US and the ESPRIT sponsored PCTE project. This subject is explored in greater detail in an appendix by Peter Hitchcock. The book concludes with a review of the prospects for future developments in database support for software engineering.
