Description
This updated classic reference provides a dependable and comprehensive work for geotechnical engineers and students taking an engineering approach to slopes. Questions of stability and instability underlie the coverage of the book. This requires an appreciation of the properties of various geomaterials, an understanding of shear strength and analysis techniques, and the actions of groundwater. The book provides guidance on remedial and corrective measures, as well as on the investigation of landslides, and is well illustrated with case histories.

Eddie Bromhead has retired from his post as Professor of Geotechnical Engineering at Kingston University, UK. He was sole Author for "The Stability of Slopes" (1st & 2nd Editions). He was co-author with Tim Ward on "Fortran and the Art of PC Programming" (Wiley), and has contributed articles and chapters to other books, and edited various conference proceedings, including the Thomas Telford 3-volume 8th International Symposium on Landslides (2000, with 2 junior colleagues). He has a practice as a consulting engineer, and has published numerous research papers.
Vern Schaefer is a Professor of Geotechnical Engineering at Iowa State University of Science and Technology, Ames, Iowa. He was editor of the 1997 publication Ground Improvement, Ground Reinforcement and Ground Treatment for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and has edited other ASCE proceedings. He is active in research related to soil behaviour of clays and shales, ground improvement, slope stability and landslides. He was a member of the organizing committee for the 1st North American Landslides Conference held in Vail, Colorado in June 2007 and lead editor for the proceedings. He was on the technical organizing committee for the 11th International Symposium on Landslides held in Banff, Canada in 2012
