David C. Brody is an associate professor in the Criminal Justice Program at Washington State University. He received a JD from the University of Arizona College of Law and a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from the University at Albany. He is the author of books on the criminal court system, criminal law and criminal procedure, and over twenty scholarly articles that have been published in such journals as the American Criminal Law Review, Crime & Delinquency, Denver University Law Review, Hastings Women's Law Journal, Justice System Journal, and Judicature. In addition to legal scholarship, David's research focuses on judicial selection and performance evaluation systems, jury reform, and the interaction between law and criminal justice policy. James R. Acker is a Distinguished Teaching Professor in the School of Criminal Justice at the University at Albany. He holds J.D. (Duke University) and PhD (University at Albany, in criminal justice) degrees. He is the recipient of Excellence in Teaching Awards from the University at Albany and the State University of New York (SUNY). He is the co-author, with David Brody, of Criminal Procedure: A Contemporary Perspective (Jones & Bartlett Learning, 3rd ed.'2013) and Criminal Law (Jones'& Bartlett Learning, 2d ed. 2010),'and co-author, with JoAnne'Malatesta,'of Introduction to Law and Criminal Justice (Jones & Bartlett'Learning, 2013). 'He is the author of Scottsboro and Its Legacy: The Cases That Challenged American Legal and Social Justice (Praeger Publishers 2008), and co-editor of The Future of America's Death Penalty: An Agenda for the Next Generation of Capital Punishment Research (Carolina Academic Press 2009); Wounds That Do Not Bind: Victim-Based Perspectives on the Death Penalty (Carolina Academic Press 2006); and America's Experiment With Capital Punishment: Reflections on the Past, Present, and Future of the Ultimate Penal Sanction (Carolina Academic Press, 2d ed. 2003).
