Description
"Intergroup Relations" examines social psychology's unique contribution to our understanding of intergroup relations, examining the whole range of interactions from the level of individual psychological processes to the behaviour of large social groups. Its theme is the interrelationship between individuals and groups, with focus on the cognitive and motivational processes that give rise to group identity, intergroup discrimination and conflict. Within this general framework "Intergroup Relations" provides a comprehensive review of social psychological research and theory related to: prejudice; ethnocentrism; ingroup bias; discrimination; and the psychological underpinnings of war. "Intergroup Relations" uses historical and contemporary examples to illustrate abstract concepts, including different types of social groupings - ethnic, religious, political and linguistic. Coverage of each topic in the volume includes historical perspectives, current theory, methodological paradigms, emerging issues and policy applications.
"Intergroup Relations" provides an understanding of the relevant research and theory, and encourages insight into the reader's own intergroup attitudes and perceptions. It should be important reading for students of social and political psychology.

Reviews / Votes
"...manages to integrate theory, research and illustrationvery nicely and is impressively up-to-date in its review of the literature...All in all it is an excellent piece of work." - Michael Hogg, University of Queensland "...extremely contemporary in its coverage and yet it introduces the classic works as well. Thebalance here is perfect...and I can honestly say that I learned some things that I didn't know before." - Samuel Gaertner, University of DelawareMore details
