Description
Preventing Litigation, for the first time, explains how to build an early warning system to identify the risk of litigation before the damage is done, and proves that there is big value in less litigation. The authors are subject matter experts, one in litigation, the other in computer science, and each has more than four decades of training and experience in their respective fields. Together, they present a way forward to a transformative revolution for the slow-moving world of law for the benefit of the fast- paced environment of the business world.

Nelson E. (Nick) Brestoff education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering systems from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), a Master of Science degree in environmental engineering science from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), and a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Southern California (USC) Gould School of Law. In 2012, Mr. Brestoff wrote the first article about electronic preventive law, Data Lawyers and Preventive Law (Law Technology News, October 25, 2012). He also wrote Preventing Litigation: An Early Warning System to Get Big Value Out of Big Data (with W. H. Inmon), published in 2015. When he retired from practicing law, he had over 38 years of litigation experience. Then, after educating himself about AI and deep learning, he applied for and received the U.S. patents he describes here. Realizing that his readers would have very different backgrounds and business experiences, Mr. Brestoff is passing the torch and challenges his readers to come up with their own inventions using deep learning. He and his family live in Sequim, Washington.
