Description
Designed to meet today's ever-increasing demand for access to the Arabic media, this practical textbook provides the basic skills required for comprehension and newsgathering from Arabic media including the web, TV, radio and newspapers. Assuming no more than a basic knowledge of grammar and vocabulary, the primary emphasis throughout is on learning to manipulate structures, short-term and vocational vocabulary acquisition, and self-assessment. Part One provides an introduction to the broad structures of media Arabic, preparing students for oral translation and independent reading, while Part Two provides more advanced exercises in oral translation focused on the vocabulary of a selection of key topics in current affairs. Both sections are based on recent news material, and an accompanying CD is included. Adaptable to both large or small classes or intensive groups, the course is designed primarily for classroom language teaching in universities and government and professional programmes, and secondarily for self-teaching.
The new edition of this best-selling textbook has been thoroughly revised to take account of changes in reporting style and spectrum of news stories, and in the technologies of access to the news media.
