Description
The folklore of Britain's natural landscape features in this book which is divided into seven categories of land and water features, such as hills, rivers and springs. There are also hundreds of stories describing how these features came into being and were used. Our ancestors weaved stories around the landscape, especially its more striking features like unusual pools, waterfalls, wells and springs. These legends often describe how the particular feature came into being, such as a rock thrown by giants, or by the devil; or how they might have been used, such as caves housing sleeping national heroes like King Arthur and his knights, or treasure. Many of these places are worth visiting, and so a gazetteer describes such sites in more detail, and there are photographs of the more exotic landscape features. Janet and Colin Bord are the authors of "Mysterious Britain: A Guide To Ancient Sites of Britain" and "Earth Rites".
