Atlas of Innovative YAG Laser Applications

YAG laser capsulotomy is widely and rightly regarded as the standard treatment for opacification of the posterior lens capsule following cataract surgery. A frequency-doubled Nd-YAG laser is used to open the posterior lens capsule with single shots, clearing the previously clouded optical axis and improving visual acuity. Although YAG laser capsulotomy is described as a simple procedure, numerous complications such as damage to the intraocular lens, subluxation or dislocation of the intraocular lens and an increase in intraocular pressure can occur.
