Lanfranco Bombelli (Milan, 1921-Cadaques, 2008) was an architect, artist and art gallery owner. After having studied architecture in Milan and Zurich, Bombelli was formally trained as an artist with the pioneers of concrete art, and with the artists Bruno Munari, Max Huber and Max Bill. In 1950 he started working with Peter Harnden in Paris as a commercial pavilion architect for the US Government. At the beginning of the 60s, they chose Barcelona and Cadaques as their headquarters from where they directed their architecture office. Thanks to Bombelli, founder of the Galeria Cadaques, international avantgarde artists such as Max Bill, Marcel Duchamp, Jasper Johns, Richard Hamilton, Joseph Beuys... first came into Catalonia and Spain. In the 70's, with his strong international relations, and his cultural, cosmopolitan character, he became an outstanding figure in the promotion of the new commercial and institutional contemporary art circuit.
