Description
This book describes the operations and industrial processes related to the production of advanced materials including ingot and powder metallurgy processing routes. It outlines the deformation processing mechanisms inducing failure at both ambient and high temperatures. Further, it embodies practical knowledge and engineering mechanisms of traditional and unorthodox material disposal approaches, concurrently with gear cutting/ manufacturing and computer numerically controlled machining. The surface fusion of metals in the production of coatings via the process of laser cladding is also covered.
Features:
Covers novel and multi-variety techniques of materials processing and manufacturing.
Reports on the significant variables of the processes and basic operations of advanced materials.
Discusses fundamental and engineering machining analysis.
Includes novel fabrication of TiAl alloys using both powder and ingot metallurgy routes.
Enables critical thinking through technical problem solving of local service manufacturers.
This book is aimed at researchers and graduate students in materials and manufacturing engineering.

Amogelang Sylvester Bolokang (M-Tech) Metallurgical Engineering, (PhD) Physics, is a Principal Researcher at the Council of Scientific Industrial Research (CSIR), Adjunct Professor at the University of the Western Cape and Associate Professor University of the Free State. He works with titanium and titanium alloys within Advanced Materials Engineering.
Sylvester's research areas are: High temperature alloys, non-ferrous and ferrous alloys (metal casting), composites, sensing and hard materials. He works in collaboration with modelling departments to validate innovations in materials product development. His interest is in microstructure, mechanical properties, crystallography and phase transformations of metals and alloys.
Maria Ntsoaki Mathabathe (PhD) Metallurgical Engineering, is a Senior Researcher based at the Council of Scientific Industrial Research (CSIR) in the Department of Materials Science and Manufacturing within Advanced Materials Engineering. She is working on advanced ??TiAl high-temperature-based materials project sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and National Research Foundation (NRF), in collaboration with the CSIR.
Maria's research areas are: physical metallurgy, including oxidation and corrosion at high temperatures. In a spectrum, her research activities are a configuration of processing-structure-properties and performance relationship. Accordingly, manipulation of materials processing parameters through alloying, casting, texture analysis, laser cladding and thermomechanical processing is evident in her research. Lastly, her interests are in the crystallography of phase domains as well as the machining and development of high-temperature advanced materials such as ?-TiAl, Ti and its alloys, NiAl based alloys, Al and their composites and Ferrous alloys.
